The EC2 server performs with a round-trip latency of 5 milliseconds or less, which is twenty times faster than most wireless connections.

The Amazon Silk browser delegates a portion of computational labor to the EC2 server, which connects more quickly to the Internet than the device's wifi connection. This conserves computational and battery power. The division of labor between the mobile hardware and the server is known as "split browser" architecture.

I personally have noticed that the Kindle Fire responds faster than the original Kindle when streaming video on websites such as YouTube. Download times are also faster than my original Kindle. Many other Kindle Fire reviews have expressed the same experience. If you bought the original Kindle and are looking for a mobile device that performs faster on the web, then upgrading to the Kindle Fire is a sure bet.

Magazine Layouts

One aspect of the original Kindle which I did not particularly care for is the inability to view magazines in the same layout available in the print version. Although, this is not my experience, if you prefer to view just the text of the magazine, then you can choose the "Text View" option. Additionally, although I have not tried it out myself, another Kindle Fire review I read claims that the device works well with comic book layouts as well.

Social Media

One aspect which I found to be lacking in the Amazon's latest gadget is the lack of built-in native social media apps. Although, overall I am happy about the device, I felt that a full Kindle Fire review should address this short-coming. Social media is such an important aspect of how we communicate today that it seems almost outdated not having some built-in native Facebook or Twitter apps. The supposed Facebook and Twitter "apps" are actually just links to the mobile sites. However, for some this may be preferable because the mobile sites do not take up storage space on the mobile device.

If you are looking to purchase a tablet reader, which offers more than just displaying simple text, then this gadget is a good choice. The Kindle Fire is also cheaper than its main competitor, the Apple iPad. Amazon's mobile device runs around $200, while the iPad can cost anywhere from $400 to $500.

This Kindle Fire review is based upon my experience using the device for approximately a month now. So far, I have had few complaints and the device has worked flawlessly. However, the device has only been on the market for a short time, therefore nobody has posted a Kindle Fire review based upon any prolonged use of the device.

And at the moment, there isn't a low-end iPad on the market. It's big bucks or choose something else.

Fortunately, there is a range of tablets on the market, a number of which fall into the budget of most students. You might need to pull an extra few shifts in your part-time job for the next month, but that's okay. The cheaper student tablets may not have all the features of the top-end models, but you may not need all those bells and whistles anyhow. Don't spend a bunch of cash on stuff you're not going to use.

If you just want a tablet because of the portability-factor and to connect to the internet for basic things, then a basic model will probably do. Make sure you check the handwriting/stylus capabilities of the cheaper models, though, because this really is a great feature for students and not all tablets do it well... or at all! And make sure you find out exactly how much memory it has and whether it has an SD or micro-SD card so you can expand your data storage at a later date (which you definitely will need, especially at university/college level).

Is There Anything In-Between?

Actually, there is. The Asus Eee Pad is a kind of "hybrid" tablet device that utilises a special "docking station" plus keyboard. Carry the tablet around with you and use it like any other tablet and then "dock" your tablet and it becomes the screen for what is basically a Netbook! It's quite an amazing piece of technology, bridging the gap between the portability of a tablet and the convenience and power of a laptop. Kind of the best of both worlds and perfect for students in my opinion.

Having said that, I should also point out (because I have no vested interest in Asus Eee Pads) that you can buy an external keyboard for most of the major tablet PCs, which achieves the same outcome.

A Middle Eastern Government wanted to collect the census data of each family in the various regions of the country, but wanted this to be a paperless census. The entire census area was divided into 10 regional offices and 1 head office. These regional offices at an average deploy 40 PDA devices to collect the census information in their respective areas. All the collected information at all the regional centers is synchronized at fixed intervals with the central server.

This required the Conduit application to synchronize the PDA data with the regional office backend, Oracle 9i Server.

As talk of the Kindle Fire being an iPad killer heats up, a research study shows Amazon might need to make sure its not burning down it's own house.
iSuppli Research released an analysis saying the $199 Kindle tablet costs the company $209.63 to manufacture. And factoring in other costs, the Fire could burn the online retailer $50 per device. The International Business Times says... (Video: Amazon)
"However, common logic dictates that no company can really sell products at a loss. Therefore, the retailer must have a different strategy when it comes to pocketing the big bucks."
eWeek reports, as a matter of fact, they do. A research note accompanying the analysis says the benefit isn't form the hardware, but from the demand. If you're on Amazon for the Fire, chances are you might check out with more.
"That strategy could pay off for Amazon in the long run."
And the note added...
"So far, no retailer has managed to create an umbilical link between digital content and a more conventional retail environment."
And a writer on Examiner supports the strategy saying...
"Whoever thought up the marketing strategy for the Amazon tablet probably should be given a promotion. But if that someone is Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, his reward has already been paid with the knowledge that his Kindle Fire is just that, on fire."
But The Wall Street Journal reminds readers, these estimates are early. Another specialist in the field, UBM TechInsights, put the tablet's tab at $150.
"Why the early differences? UBM figures the Fire's touch screen and display is costing Amazon $60, while IHS iSuppli estimates the cost at $87. IHS iSuppli added a $11 cost for the Fire's plastic enclosure, while UBM didn't break that factor out."
So, can Kindle really burn the iPad if it's a loss leader? For comparison sake, ForexTV reports the $499 Apple device costs $350 to produce.
